The São Miguel Guest House, an original house from XIX Century, is located in the Soto Maior Street. This street is in a valley, which old memories say was part of the land assigned, in ancient times, to the Palacio da Vila. This is not surprising, since, at the time of its construction, no Palace with such importance, would have as its land only what exists today.
One of the most important things in this Valley, is its exposure to the sun. Sintra for its climate, has a luxuriant landscape, that makes it so special and so beautiful, but also, for the same reason, it has areas where the sun is barely visible.
The house is named after a Tile representing Saint Michael. The sun is present all day, the sunset illuminating the balcony facing the Pena Palace and Regaleira Palace as well as the entire view from there, offering, as a gift, a variety of colors of great beauty, ranging from pink to red.
The São Miguel Guest House, can be reached on foot from downtown, a walk taking about five minutes from Palácio da Vila or the famous Café Paris or Piriquita, the well known pastry house, without creating the feeling of isolation, as happens with more distant houses.
